It reads like something written from inside a storm rather than about one. The emotions don’t sit still long enough to be neat—they overlap, clash, and echo off each other. That makes it feel honest in a rough way, like the words are still warm from being lived, not polished for distance.
What sticks is how intimacy here doesn’t feel safe or soft—it feels consuming. Even love sounds like something that changes shape as you hold it, until you’re not sure where you end and it begins.
Thanks Silent Pages for reviewing Mayhem’s Prodigy I like the way you described and felt about the song. it is very raw indeed. and captures the moment.
I can feel that energy through the screen! It’s awesome that the Muse is walking with you this week—there’s honestly no better feeling than being 'on fire' like that. It makes perfect sense to channel that into your projects and just pop into Substack when you need that break. I’m really looking forward to catching up on everything you’ve been creating while you were in that zone.
As for Mayhem—wow. Industrial Dark-wave fits this perfectly. The lyrics are visceral. I love how you start the song, and the way you build the rhythm with your voice—that 'aaa... hoo-hoo...' is hypnotic! And then, when your voice comes in with that echo... man, it’s an absolute orgasm for the ears!
The line 'Obsidian eyes flecked with gold, young at heart wearing an old soul' is such a powerful image, and the way you contrast that beauty with 'castrating hell' is brutal in the best way possible. It’s got that raw, desperate, punky energy that hits hard. The transition from 'mayhem stirs in my soul' to that desperate question 'if I said I loved you would you let me go?' really drives home that feeling of a 'captured captive'.
You’re really good at painting these dark, intricate portraits of love and destruction. Keep riding that creative wave, Miz!
im glad you liked this song because it was a toss between Mayhem's Prodigy and Silhouette In Shadow. But I thought Silhouette was a better choice.
yeah I do like dark in my song I just like that science because its too easy be pink pastel and fluffy. so theres a part of me that embraces the darkness and accepts it. plus without pain I dont feel alive and reacting to darkness is an energy that gets me positive results musically and lyrically. its a fire thats untamed.
I'll have to share with you my mini saga once its completed. im currently working on the third and final instalment its untitled but im sure I'll intuit a title later as I progress with the story and see how it develops.
But thank you so much for taking time to listen to the music, Max. Much appreciated.
lol ikr. Mayhem was going to be part of a collaboration but I decided it’s a little too alternative perhaps? It didn’t make the Final Cut so now its going to be part of a 10 song project called: Silhouette And Shadow
thanks so much for listening to the song. much appreciated.
All good. Taking a bit of a breather from writing. A little bit busy for the next few days so I'm using the time as a little space for ideas and feels. How's Wales?
Wales is wet atm but thats typical welsh weather for you. good idea to have a breather and being busy probably means you’ll have an army of ideas to kinda piece together: I love jigsaws.
As an aside I have decided I am going to be a pro wrestlingtler in my next life. the sport is crazy good
thanks my friend: Mayhem is the raw track I mentioned - It didn’t make the cut for the collab im doing with Maxim Farrier - but im quite pleased with it- the contrasts and the driving beat and the Ukrainian strings coming half way towards the end made me did; it all worked seamlessly. thanks for listening.
I’m fine, a little tired. had a brief call with my friend in China today will be linking with him 2morrow. Interesting you should mention collaboration I had toyed with that idea- so sure i’d be happy to give it a go- you play guitar as well as vocals? so if I laid down a track i’d love to get your guitar on it. i’ll be writing a new song later today and should have it finished by Monday evening my time if all goes well. so once i’ve completed it i’ll send it your way. which will probably be later in the week realistically. lol my time keeping is cray
I’m also writing on the prequel of the saga I had written so I want to complete the prelude and then I can work on the chapters. I’m hoping 5 but maybe I might have to split the chapters if they’re 2 long.
studio sounds like fun and im glad you’re enjoying it.
oic I thought for a moment you were a guitarist because I saw one time a pic I assumed was you with a guitar? or a likeness of you- this is going way back - when we first started talking and getting to know each other.

yes I really like the different sections. great job as always! maybe we could work on a collab some day?
how are you doing?

Hows the studio work coming along?
The studio is coming along slowly. its a process apparently 🤣
studio sounds like fun and im glad you’re enjoying it.

yes it’s usually always a good time!
I wish I could play guitar. I always wimp out because my fingers are sore. :-)
Hello my friend!
I don't play guitar unfortunately. Some keys. I'm mostly using the keyboard and computer and getting other people to play the instruments.
